Cape Hatteras Secondary School

For Friday, September 11, 2009, Cape Hatteras Secondary School of Coastal Studies Social Studies Department created a display commemorating September 11, 2001. The display included photo layouts taken directly after and on the days following the sad events with key facts. There was also a location giving students and staff an opportunity to record their memories and reflections about what took place that day. Social Studies Department Chair Marie Richards reported that students in every Social Studies class discussed "9/11" in their classes and visited the display to help gain perspective and provoke thought on the impact of these events. One student wrote what Principal Jean Taylor referred to as powerful words. "I only remember knowing there was something going on that was too big for me to understand."
